In honor of Pleasure Ridge Park hosting its second annual blood drive, this story is going to provide you with the importance of donating blood.
This time alone, PRP had over 80 students sign up to donate blood! PRP has helped the American Red Cross tremendously. PRP hopes to make this an annual tradition, hopefully getting the community involved.
“In my HOSA class, we looked at the statistics and read that one person donating blood can help save eight lives! We were in shock,” said RN, Erin Ferguson.
Every day, blood donors help patients of all ages. Accident and burn victims, heart surgery and organ transplant patients, and those battling cancer are just a few examples. In fact, every two seconds, someone in the United States needs blood.
“It’s nice knowing that by donating just a small amount of blood, I can help so many lives,” said Sophomore Kirby Alexander.
Giving blood is a very simple process: just one little poke in your arm. Despite medical and technological advances, blood cannot be made. Donations are the only way the Red Cross can give blood to those who need it. When an individual gives blood, it gives someone another smile, another hug, and another chance. It is the gift of life. Be a hero and give blood.
