In honor of Earth Day, Lil Dicky released a single entitled “Earth,” featuring many artists such as Ariana Grande, Ed Sheeran, Shawn Mendes, and Halsey. The song was originally supposed to be a fun song about animals.
“I didn’t know that we literally have 12 years to completely change how we do so many things on Earth, from a fundamental standpoint, or the damage will be irreversible and in our lifetimes we’re going to experience such drastic impact,” the rapper told Rolling Stone Magazine. “Upon realizing that, it went from a silly song about animals to, ‘Oh my God, this is the most important thing I’ll ever do.'”
After the realization of climate change, Lil Dicky released “Earth,” and launched a website to educate listeners about the issue. The website has videos explaining the problem and the various solutions. There are even ways that the website allows people to take action by signing a petition and even learning about their personal carbon footprint.
Lil Dicky used his humor and desire to help fix a momentous issue to create a song anyone can enjoy and a website anyone can use to learn.
