PRP chess club finished their season with a record of 5-4-1 [wins-losses-ties]. The team seeded eleven out of twenty for the post season tournament. Tournament days were January 11, 2018 and January 24, 2018.
“We were hoping to have a top ten finish. We have a lot of good talent we just don’t have that number one yet but were getting there,” Coach Richard Hawks said.
Day one they beat Moore (5-0), tied Wagner (2.5-2.5), and was in sixth at the end of day one. Day two beat Male (3-2), lost to Fairdale, and finished the tournament in fifth place.
“What I love most about chess is the ability to use my knowledge for more than just homework and finessing my teachers, but I get to challenge my team mates in ways that aren’t always expected. I hoped to do really good and the tournament and we did #GORidge,” Senior Brandon Eugene said.
