The Chamber Choir will advance to the state level of the Kentucky Music Educators Association Performance (KMEA) Assessment thanks to earning a perfect score at the District Assessment on Wednesday, March 12.
The KMEA State Assessment will be held at the University of Louisville on May 7. According to PRP High School Choir Director Phillip Jennings, students will prepare three or four pieces of music for the assessment. Choirs are scored in the following categories: tone quality, vocal technique, interpretation and overall performance.
Though only the Chamber Choir will advance to the state competition, both the Chamber singers and the Advanced Women’s Choir scored well at the district assessment, with the Chamber singers earning a distinguished rating and the Advanced Women earning a proficient rating from the four KMEA judges.
Choir director Phillip Jennings expressed his pride in the students, who battled illnesses, snow days, and other obstacles during their preparation for district assessment. “I am proud to be working with such wonderful kids who take their full heart with them wherever they go,” said Mr. Jennings.
